Bariatric Transportation
Having the right equipment in place, and knowing how to use it, can be the key to safely and humanely assisting bariatric patients.
There are times when the weight and width of the patient may exceed the ability of a transportation provider to safely fit the individual on a stretcher. These special transportation circumstances can create a host of safety issues if the transportation provider is not prepared and properly equipped to handle the person’s unique size. A standard stretcher may become top heavy and prone to toppling over. The side rails my cause the patient discomfort or even pain and the safety straps may not be long enough to secure the individual leading to a potential safety issue.
At Redmond EMS, we are prepared for the special transportation needs of your bariatric patients. We are equipped with a specialized extra-wide bariatric Stryker stretcher designed for these unique transportation cases. Additionally, Redmond EMS will soon be using a winching system to easily and comfortably transport patients requiring special weight consideration.
