Redmond EMS Wins 3rd Annual Great Spaghetti Challenge

Thursday, April 7th, 2011 Redmond EMS

A team of culinary artists from Redmond EMS won the Judge’s Choice Award and Overall Winner at the 3rd Annual Great Spaghetti Challenge to raise money for the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth hosted at The Forum Friday, April 1st, 2011.

The challenge—hosted by the Rome-Floyd Fire Department—invited teams to enter their pasta sauces for trophies in three categories: people’s choice, judge’s choice and best presentation.

Carol Willis, executive director of the commission, said the fire department got involved with the spaghetti challenge because of its participation in other food competitions that raise money for charity. The event netted more than $7,000 for the organization last year, Willis said.

The Redmond EMS team consisted of District 1 Commander Sherry Peace, Dispatcher Wayne Wilkey (well known for his mouth-watering spaghetti), Training Coordinator Wyndie Medley, 911 Dispatcher Bill Peace, NET Tech Laura Bright and Net Tech Dee Mosteller.

Redmond Regional Medical Center CEO John Quinlivan attended the challenge and was quite impressed with the teams effort. John Q. said, ” Congrats to Redmond EMS on winning the Spaghetti Cook-off Friday night at the Forum. I was there and can vouch for the judge’s decision. Sherry and her team aren’t just a good EMTs and paramedics, they can cook! Thanks to our EMS team for representing us so well. We are Redmond!”
