Redmond EMS Assists Floyd Crew During Fire
Redmond EMS employee’s Paramedic Morgan Cole and EMT Carey Maney deserve praise after assisting Floyd EMS during a recent fire. Morgan and Carey set a fine example for all of us to follow. See RomeNewswire article below.
Floyd Ambulance Burns at West Towne Square
Rome-Floyd County firefighters responded to West Towne Square Shopping Center in West Rome at 12:30 Wednesday for a Floyd Medical Center ambulance that was heavily involved with fire as paramedics from Floyd EMS and Redmond EMS united to initially fight the blaze with hand extinguishers.
According to reports, the Floyd ambulance crew had just noticed a problem with the transmission on the unit and crossed over a speed bump which apparently caused flames to erupt. The medics escaped from the vehicle without harm and attempted to extinguish the blaze with a hand extinguisher. Redmond Regional Medical Center EMS Paramedic Morgan Cole and EMT Carey Maney—who were also in the area— grabbed the hand extinguishers off of their ambulance and joined in fighting the blaze.
EMT Carey Maney stated,” We were just trying to keep the fire out of the oxygen compartment on the truck. If it had reached that, this fire could have been much worse”.
The fire was held at bay by the medics until the firefighters arrived and extinguished it completely.
The ambulance appeared to be a total loss and there was no structural damage to the building. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Floyd EMS Director M.L. Owens could not be reached for comment at the time of this article.
