Man Flown To Erlanger After Armuchee Wreck
Redmond EMS Medic 17 and Medic 14 responded along with Rome firefighters on May 7, 2010 around 9 a.m. to an accident at Highway 156 at Floyd Springs Road. The driver of a Jeep Cherokee—driven by a Tennessee man—struck a tractor-trailer after the driver hit his brakes causing him to slide across the roadway into the trailer.
Upon EMS arrival it was quickly determined that the man was trapped in the vehicle due to his legs being pinned beneath the dash. There was extensive damage to the Cherokee with passenger space intrusion. Rome firefighters and Redmond EMS personnel worked diligently for almost an hour to free the man.
It was determined that the man had head, pelvis and leg trauma and was in critical condition. A life flight helicopter was requested and treatment was initiated by Paramedic Ken McKenzie, EMT Trent Vincent, Paramedic/ Lt. Steven Henson and EMT Wanda Durham.
The man was flown to Erlanger Medical Center after he was extricated by the firefighters and EMS crew. He is still listed in critical condition.
(Paramedic Ken McKenzie and EMT Wanda Durham survey the patient.)
(Paramedic/Lt. Steven Henson discusses the extrication on scene with the Lifeflight medics.)
